Hair Loss - A Little Known Secret About Minoxidil

I found out an interesting detail about a popular hair loss treatment when one of my friends went to a doctor. John was 64 years old at that point and noticed the first time a hair loss in his mustache and on his chest.

John did not like what he saw so he went to the doctor to ask for advice. He said that it would be rare for men in his age to have this kind of hair loss. Loosing hair on the scalp is pretty common, which was another problem of John that he had since over twenty years already.

The doctor said that the spotty bald spots on his chest are signs of alopecia areata. It is an auto immune disease and means that John had developed an allergy to his own hair.

John was using Minoxidil already for his scalp since a couple of years with some success. He immediately had the idea to use it for his mustache problem. But he did not. The package said he should not use it on other body parts. So he went to the doctor.

John was quite surprised to hear from the doctor that Minoxidil would work on any other are of the body as well. The doctor said he should try it for six months, in the morning and in the evening, and see what happens. Minoxidil lets hair grow thicker and longer, also the mustache.

The reason why they say you should use it on the scalp only is quite simple. The tests the company had to do to achieve FDA approval are very expensive. They focused on scalp tests only and that results are what the FDA had. Therefore this is the only thing that is on the package.

However, every dermatologist knows that you can apply Minoxidil anywhere and not only on the scalp. I wonder what people would do if they know.
